FC St. Pauli won 3-0 away at SC Freiburg on Saturday, gaining a fully deserved first win of the season. Elias Saad (12, 73) and Oladapo Afolayan (45) crowned a strong team performance with their goals, while Nikola Vasilj also saved a penalty from Vincenzo Grifo (41).

On the club's return to the Bundesliga, FC St. Pauli lost 0-2 (0-0) against 1. FC Heidenheim. In front of a crowd of 29,157, goals from Paul Wanner (67) and Jan Schöppner (82) gave the visitors the victory. After an even opening 15 minutes, the Boys in Brown were the better team, but failed to capitalise on multiple chances. Heidenheim by contrast clinically took advantage of their two second-half chances and left the Millerntor with all three points.

FC St. Pauli won 3-2 at Hallescher FC on Friday evening to move into the second round of the DFB Cup. Halle led twice in front of a 14,000 capacity crowd thanks to goals from Cyrill Akono and Marius Hauptmann but Johannes Eggestein, just after the restart, and a last-gasp strike from Adam Dźwigała took the game into extra-time, where Lars Ritzka won it for his side in the 109th minute.
