Viet joins Dortmund Under-23s on loan

The final day of the transfer window has seen another player leave FC St. Pauli, with Christian Viet moving to Borussia Dortmund's second team on loan until the end of the season.

Viet joined the club's youth academy in January 2017 and contributed two goals and two assists in 27 outings for the Under-19s before making 60 appearances for the Under-23s (four goals, two assists). The versatile midfielder eventually completed the step-up to the senior side, making ten appearances in the 2019/20 season.

Reaction to the move:

Director of sport Andreas Bornemann: "At Dortmund, Christian will get the chance to prove himself at a very high level over a longer period. He's made really good progress with us but needs regular football, which we wouldn't have been able to guarantee him given the depth and quality of our squad in his positions."

Christian Viet: "It's a good opportunity for me to gain more match practice. I haven't been able to play regularly over the last two years, partly because of the coronavirus, but you need that as a footballer. A spell at Dortmund is therefore an important step in my development, both in footballing and in personal terms."
