Goalscorers, set pieces and fans – facts and figures for the season so far

While the players are recharging their batteries for the second half of the campaign, we decided to take a look back at the season so far. Who has got on the scoresheet and how many fans have been in attendance? Where do the Boys in Brown lead the way and what areas are still in need of improvement?
The marksman
What a year it's been for Guido Burgstaller! The striker made 42 competitive appearances for the club, scoring an incredible 27 goals in the process. Eleven of them came in the second half of last season, 14 this term plus two in the DFB Cup. Yet Burgstaller, who featured nine times in the kicker Sportmagazin Team of the Day in 2021, also stood out as a maker of goals, contributing ten assists, which means he was involved in almost half of the club's 79 goals in 2021.

The goalscorers
The Boys in Brown boast the league's leading goalscorer in Guido Burgstaller. As already mentioned, the Austrian already has 14 goals to his name. Just how unpredictable the Boys in Brown are, however, is demonstrated by the number of players who have contributed goals. In addition to Burgstaller, another 11 players have got their names on the scoresheet at least once. Only Jahn Regensburg (14) have more different goalscorers in their ranks. The Schultz XI also lead the way, along with Werder Bremen and SV Sandhausen, in terms of goals by defenders. The Boys in Brown already have six in this category thanks to Leart Paqarada (3), Luca Zander, Marcel Beifus and Adam Dźwigała.

Set pieces
The Boys in Brown have registered 37 times in the 18 games played so far, most of them (33) coming from open play. Looking at it the other way, then, it means there haven't been many goals from set pieces. The Schultz XI have scored just four times from dead-ball situations, including the two penalties by Guido Burgstaller against Dresden and Karlsruhe plus goals from Luca Zander against Ingolstadt and Burgstaller against Schalke 04 following a corner. Along with Holstein Kiel and SV Sandhausen, the Boys in Brown are the only team not to have scored from a free-kick.

Attendances
After almost the whole of last season had taken place behind closed doors, the fans returned to football at the start of the current campaign. A total of 122,952 spectators have attended the eight games played at the Millerntor thus far for an average attendance of 15,369 to leave the Boys in Brown in eighth place in this category. FC Schalke 04 lead the way here, with a total of 282,614 fans attending their nine home games for an average of 31,402. Bottom of the rankings are SV Sandhausen, whose eight home games have attracted 31,600 people for an average of 3,950.
A total of 14,773 fans saw the home game against Dynamo Dresden in early October.
