Saliakas handed new deal

FC St. Pauli have handed Manolis Saliakas a new contract, thus tying another key player down for the foreseeable future. The 27-year-old right-back moved to the Millerntor from Greek top-division club PAS Giannina at the start of the 2022/23 season. Since then, the Greek international has made 64 second division and five DFB Cup appearances for the Boys in Brown, scoring six goals and providing six assists.

Before his move, Saliakas made a total of 70 appearances for Giannina, PAS Lamia and Olympiacos in the Greek top flight (two goals, three assists) plus another 21 in the Championship round and relegation play-offs (two assists). He has also played four times for the national team.

Reaction to the deal

Director of sport Andreas Bornemann: "Over the last two years, Manolis has absolutely fulfilled the expectations we had when we signed him. He has performed on a high level throughout and improved tactically to such an extent that he played his way back into the Greek national team, so we're delighted to have agreed terms on a continuation of our association."

Head coach Alexander Blessin: "Manolis has been a first-team regular since moving to Hamburg and as such has had a major hand in the positive development of the last two years. He's a key factor in defence and attack with his very active style of play. I'm really looking forward to working with him."

Manolis Saliakas: "I've already had two very nice and successful years at FC St. Pauli. It's no secret that I feel very much at home at the club and in the city. I'd like to thank the officials and the fans for their trust and support and hope I can continue to pay them back with good performances."
