FC St. Pauli have bolstered their strikeforce with the addition of David Otto from Bundesliga side TSG Hoffenheim. The 23-year-old had most recently been loaned out to Jahn Regensburg and previously played for FC Heidenheim.
Otto has made a total of 66 Bundesliga 2 appearances to date, scoring five goals and assisting eight others. The striker also played seven times for the Germany Under-20s, contributing three goals. He signed his first professional contract with Hoffenheim in 2018, having already made his debut in the Europa League. Otto made a total of 59 appearances for Hoffenheim's Under-19 side, scoring 39 goals and providing 24 assists.
Reaction to the deal
Director of sport Andreas Bornemann: David Otto is a young striker with lots of experience at senior level. Having come through the youth setup at TSG Hoffenheim, he's had an excellent grounding. We're delighted to have signed another ambitious young player for FC St. Pauli in David Otto."
Head coach Timo Schultz: David can be deployed in a number of attacking roles, thus giving us more opportunities to make our game more difficult to predict. As in previous seasons, we also want to develop our players, and David has all the necessary prerequisites for that."
David Otto: After my stints at Heidenheim and Regensburg I'm looking forward to a new challenge in the far north. St. Pauli are a great opportunity for me, as they put their faith in young ambitious players. Besides the footballing aspect I'm obviously really looking forward to running out at the Millerntor in brown and white, but we have pre-season to negotiate before I do that. I can't wait to get to know the players and get started for St. Pauli."
