FC St. Pauli

Standing at 2.01m (6’7), Makienok was an imposing presence on the pitch. Identified as a target man up top, he arrived at the Millerntor from second-division rivals Dynamo Dresden in the summer of 2020 and went on to score two goals and provide two assists in 18 league appearances in his debut campaign. This season, the Danish striker notched six goals in 27 league outings. His brace against our cross-city rivals in a 3-2 derby win at the Millerntor will remain etched in the memory.

"It's always a nice feeling when you feel your own fans are behind you,” said Simon in an interview once. "They made a song for me, which I really liked. When I meet the fans in the city, either before or after a game, I always take the time to talk to them. I always try to be myself, and when I'm on the pitch I always try to play my game and give 100 per cent for the club and the team and I think that's what the fans appreciate." Yet it wasn’t just his human side and his unflagging commitment that earned him a place in the hearts of the fans. He was always up for a bit of fun and had his heart in the right place. Because on the pitch or off it, Simon always took a clear stance against racism, homophobia and sexism.
