In the month of December, Bundesliga 2 enters the final stretch before the winter break. For the Boys in Brown there are 12 points at stake in three home games and the trip to Bochum. This Saturday, Dynamo Dresden are the visitors to the Millerntor. As usual, we've taken a closer look at our next opponents.
Historic
The away game at FC Cologne three weeks ago could hardly have gone any worse for Dynamo. That 8-1 drubbing was the highest defeat in the club's history and significantly worse than the two 5-0 losses at Bayern Munich (Bundesliga 1/1993-94) and Rapid Vienna (Cup Winners' Cup quarter-final second leg/1983-84) that had previously been their most forgettable outing. If it's any consolation to Dynamo, our club chronicles also include an 8-1 reverse – against Bayern Munich in May 2011.
Painful
The Saxons returned to winning ways last week when they sent FC Ingolstadt back home with a 2-0 defeat. That success came at a cost, however, as captain Marco Hartmann, Dresden's most combative player, suffered a broken rib and will be out for the rest of the year. Defender Linas Wahlqvist will also be sidelined until the winter break due to a pelvic stress fracture.
Quick-fire
In terms of goals scored, Dresden sit in mid-table with 19, compared with 20 for the Boys in Brown. Markus Kauczinski's side will need to have their wits about them against the Saxons, especially early on, as Dynamo have scored eight times in the opening half an hour. Only Regensburg (10) have scored more often in the first 30 minutes.
Young
In Markus Schubert, 20, Dresden boast the league's youngest first-team goalkeeper. This season he is the only Dynamo player not to miss a single minute. Schubert, who made his second division debut in the 3-1 home defeat against the Boys in Brown back in January, has kept five clean sheets this term to rank fourth in the league.
Grim
Every club has them: bogey teams and teams they love to play. But with Dynamo Dresden and St. Pauli, it's a bit of a grey area. On head-to-head, the pendulum swings only slightly towards the Boys in Brown (6 wins, 3 draws and 5 defeats), but when you look at the record at the Millerntor, it's much more clear-cut. Dynamo have left their calling card at the Millerntor seven times to date but have yet to pick up a win. In Bundesliga 2, they have lost four times and drawn once (2-2 last season), having nicked a point twice before that in the Regionalliga North.
