The first few days at your new club are often marked by mutual curiosity. While Rico Benatelli has been having fun getting to know his new teammates, he's also been busy fielding questions from the media. Among other things, the 27-year-old spoke about…
…his move to the Millerntor: "Though I felt at home in Dresden and had two good years there, I was very happy when St. Pauli expressed an interest. The atmosphere and the club are obviously very special and so I could easily see myself moving here."
…the managerial changes: "I'd already had contact with the coach and director of sport Andreas Bornemann beforehand. The discussions were good and so I came here feeling positive. I'm glad to be here and aim to play as many games as possible."
…his holidays: "I went to Singapore and the North Sea island of Borkum, where my mother lives. We then spent some time in Cáorle near Venice, where my grandfather's roots lie."
…Monday's blood lactate test: "My test results won't be bad. I've always been in the top third at my previous clubs. We were all given plans for the holiday, so we aren't starting from scratch."
…teammates he has already played alongside: "I played in the same team as Marc Hornschuh at Dortmund and alongside Christopher Buchtmann in the Westphalia XI."
…previous outings to the Millerntor: "My appearances with Würzburg, Aue and Dresden often went very well for me. I'm now looking forward to running out for St. Pauli at the Millerntor for the first time."
…his strengths: "You don't enjoy talking about your strengths, of course, but I do like being in possession. I'm assured on the ball and want to play football, but I also enjoy getting into the box or helping out in defence."
…his father, who made 192 Bundesliga appearances for VfL Bochum: "He's played a very important in my development. He watches almost every game, often comes to matches and is an important point of contact for me. He's always honest with me and was also pleased when St. Pauli showed an interest."
…his objectives at the club: "I want to get involved and play my game on the pitch. St. Pauli are an ambitious club, of course. Our first objective will be to do everything we can to be successful. We're already well placed but we'll need to take each game as it comes."
